As my 2nd (and final) year of college is coming to a close I’ve become increasingly disappointed in humanity. Maybe because I feel people in their late teens or early 20s should be a bit more responsible I don’t know, but I’ve steadily lost faith in people and their understanding of the world. Or maybe it’s just because most people here are really well off and simply don’t care, which is even more depressing. 

People just seem to have a complete inability to take responsibility for their actions and to understand that every decision they make has consequences, whether that’s taking several months to tell your best friend that you don’t want to move out with them because they are unbearable to live with and potentially fucking over their living (and life) arrangements, or leaving the tap running full power while you brush your teeth for 3 minutes. It’s like they just WANT to be blind and ignore everything that goes on around them and it’s so frustrating.

Not telling someone for months that you don’t live with them is not ok. Especially when that person does not have a stable financial situation or is not from this city or country. That person needs concrete plans and not someone who is going to flake out on them. I have seen that happen 3 times since August, and every time it happens shit hits the fan. It’s times like that I see how clearly girls are bitches and that maturity is a really slow force to seep through an all female college.

And leaving the tap running while you brush your teeth or leaving your light on for hours while you aren’t in your room is not ok! Australia is the driest inhabited continent on earth (Antarctica is the driest overall) and water is a finite resource. More so, it is not that hard to turn the tap off! Are people seriously that lazy?! I understand that not everyone is into the whole save-the-environment-and-hug-trees thing but that is a pretty basic thing.

I was hanging out with a girl and we went down to dinner together. She was closing her bedroom door and she was leaving her light on.

Me: Why don’t you turn the light off?

Her: I’m only going to dinner for a few minutes then I’ll be back

Me: Unless you turn the light on and off again immediately, you’re wasting energy

Her: *shrugs* well I guess that’s punishment for the college for giving me shitty food

WTF!!!!! GET A FUCKING GRIP and stop being so selfish!!! Argh!!!!
